On behalf of Their Excellencies, the Baron and Baroness, and the populace of the Barony of Vatavia, I, Deirdre de Warenne of Childentun, do extend a warm welcome to all new gentles that have wandered onto our lands!

The Barony of Vatavia is a part of the south central region of the Kingdom of Calontir, which is comprised of most of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and a smidge of Arkansas. We are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc., better known as the SCA.

Well, what is the SCA?
The SCA is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to researching and recreating the customs, chivalry, and combat of the Middle Ages. We strive to preserve the best of medieval history, to promote historical study, and to keep the arts and sciences of an age past thriving in this, our Current Middle Ages.

How do I get involved?
The best way to get involved with the Barony of Vatavia is to attend as many local meetings and events as your mundane (modern) life allows. Be sure to introduce yourself and let us know that you are new and would like to learn more about what it is we do around here. Do not be afraid to ask lots of questions, our Barony is filled with members who would love to answer them for you.

To find out more about Vatavia’s events* and activities, be sure to check out the Interest Groups and Calendar page. Our Populace meeting, held the third Wednesday of each month, is probably one of the best times to attend when just starting out.

You may also wish to join the Dragonflyonline Mailing List. Additional information, reminders and cancellations are regularly posted regarding meetings, practices, social events, and just about everything else concerning Vatavia. Feel free to just read through the messages, but we encourage you to add your thoughts and suggestions to any ongoing discussion.

*Please note that the only requirement to attend an event is that you attempt to wear a pre-1600 costume. Loaner garb is available should you need to borrow something for your first event. Please contact the Chatelaine (that would be me) beforehand and arrangements will be made.

Where can I find more information?
Excellent information for not only newcomers but also for anyone wanting to learn more about the Society for Creative Anachronism can be found at:

For more information and to ask specific questions, feel free to e-mail me. I will answer your questions as soon as possible or refer you to the person who has a particular answer, and can give you more information on becoming a part of our Barony.

In Service,
Lady Deirdre de Warenne of Childentun
